by <a title=\"solarbotics.com\" href=\"https:\/\/www.solarbotics.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">solarbotics.com<\/a>.\u00a0 This black acrylic box has a single switch on it&#8217;s top, which when flipped, turns on a motor connected to a &#8216;finger&#8217; which pops up and flips the switch back to the off position.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve found\u00a0myself flipping it on at my desk almost instinctively throughout the day, and it makes me smile every single time.\u00a0 It&#8217;s just simply great.\u00a0 Take a look at the video to get a better idea of what we&#8217;re talking about here.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pgVfVYq2kz0\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h1>\u00a0Assembly<\/h1>\n<p>Assembling the useless box is not hard, but it is a little time consuming, and does require you to solder a small amount of stuff together.\u00a0 Honestly I think I spent half as much time peeling the protective brown paper off all the parts as I did doing the rest of the assembly.\u00a0 Here is how your useless box arrives:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1261\" style=\"width: 635px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.knightware.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Useless-Box-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1261\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1261\" alt=\"Raw materials for a Useless Box\" src=\"http:\/\/www.knightware.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Useless-Box-1-1024x576.jpg\" width=\"625\" height=\"351\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1261\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Raw materials for a Useless Box<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The assembly breaks into four or five steps, each taking about an equal amount of time.\u00a0 The instructions estimated 1.5 hours for the full build, but it took me more like 2.5 hours (yes I&#8217;m slow).<\/p>\n<h2>Build Steps:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Remove all the damn brown protective paper from the acrylic parts.<\/li>\n<li>Solder together the electronics.<\/li>\n<li>Assemble the main box.<\/li>\n<li>Disassemble and then re-assemble the box after you figure out that the piece holding the motor needs to be mounted as the rest of the box is being put together.<\/li>\n<li>Mount the electronics in the box, adjust for fit, and then test!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The electronics harness would have been much easier if I still had a vice to hold the parts in place while trying to solder, but a\u00a0little scotch tape did the trick in a pinch.\u00a0 Below is the finished electronic harness and the box parts all laid out:<\/p>\n<dl class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" id=\"attachment_1271\" style=\"width: 310px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><\/dt>\n<\/dl>\n<div id=\"attachment_1271\" style=\"width: 635px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.knightware.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Useless-Box-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1271\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1271\" alt=\"Assembled electronics harness and box parts\" src=\"http:\/\/www.knightware.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Useless-Box-2-1024x576.jpg\" width=\"625\" height=\"351\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1271\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Assembled electronics harness and box parts<\/p><\/div>\n<p>And here is the finished product:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1281\" style=\"width: 635px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.knightware.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Useless-Box-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1281\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1281\" alt=\"Useless box assembled product\" src=\"http:\/\/www.knightware.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Useless-Box-3-1024x576.jpg\" width=\"625\" height=\"351\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1281\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Useless box assembled product<\/p><\/div>\n<h1>Call to Action: Go Buy One<\/h1>\n<p>This thing is fun, and is worth plunking down some cash for.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure you can get it at a number of places, but mine came from ThinkGeek, which is a site I believe you should be giving your money to anyway.\u00a0 Below is the link;
